Listen to Obituary

Marlin Edward Boyer, age 87, of Springville, Utah passed away on November 18, 2025. He was born January 2, 1938 to Edward Herbert and Vesta Josephine Frost Boyer. He was delivered in the front room of the Boyer home. He married his dream girl Pauline Lenore Underwood Gould on July 22, 1960 in the LDS Manti, Utah temple. Pauline passed away April 11, 2018.

Marlin was the third of twelve children born to Edward and Vesta. They lived on the Boyer family farm. At around age two Marlin was outside playing, his mother was inside and heard the train’s whistle. Vesta ran outside to find Marlin on the tracks. She ran jumping the fence reaching Marlin just in time to pull him off safely. Marlin attended schools in Springville, Utah. In Jr. High he started playing the violin and played that until his senior year. He enjoyed chemistry, physics and mathematics. He attended a church dance where he met a young lady that would steal his heart. He only dated Pauline for the next two years until he went on a mission. Serving in the Great Lakes Mission from January 1958 to January 1960.

The day Marlin returned from his mission he went to Pauline’s home. Her mother told him to go wait for her at school. Which he did to the great surprise of Pauline. On their first date he asked her to marry him. She wasn’t sure so she took two weeks to answer him. She said Yes! They were married that summer. They lived in Springville while he returned to school. Working on the farm when he could. Clinton was born May 5, 1961. Marlin continued school and work as Pauline was taking care of the home. Marlin enjoyed hunting, so in October 1962 he went hunting and returned at dusk. Pauline was nowhere to be found. Marlin ran over to the hospital, and after a futile attempt to finding her, saw his mother in law. She being Pauline’s mother and nurse had brought her in the back door. Leah told Marlin to go check Pauline in at the front desk. And told him he had his second son. Mark was born October 20, 1962. Marlin graduated and earned a Bachelors of Education from Brigham Young University in 1963.

Marlin’s first teaching job was in Duchesne, Utah. They moved there but would return each summer, renting a house and he worked on the farm. July 13, 1964 Dennis was born. Then on June 14, 1966 Brian was born. In April 1967 one night Dennis now one and a half years yelled, “Creed.” That was Marlin’s youngest brother’s name. Later that night they received a phone call telling them that Creed had died form acute encephalitis. The spring of 1967 Marlin signed a contract with Nebo School District. So they moved back to Springville and bought a home at 610 Brookside Drive. He attended Utah State University that next summer. He taught at Spanish Fork High School for one year then transferred to Springville High School. July 11, 1968 Kevin was born. Marlin taught at Springville for four years. March 29, 1971 Kirk was born. Marlin then found a program that would take his Utah State University credits so the family moved to Laramie, Wyoming. One school year later Marlin earned his Masters of Teaching from the University of Wyoming. They moved back to their home in Brookside they had rented out. Marlin taught one more year at Springville High School.

Marlin’s father Edward presented an opportunity to him. Trade houses and purchase the farm. Marlin loved teaching but jumped at this. Grandpa retired and the family moved to the farm the fall of 1973. Marlin officially took over in January of 1974 after a family trip to Walt Disney World. A later year they rented a motor home with the Schouten cousins and drove to the North Carolina and back with various stops along the way, including the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Arches National Park was a yearly vacation until it got too crowded. Yearly camping at Beaver Mountain became our vacation when the boys were older, some married. Most of the grandchildren have memories of Beaver Mountain.

He was a member of the Lions Club for many years. He served on the Nebo School Board for eight years.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Serving in many callings throughout his life. He served in the stake quorum of the seventies. Marlin and Pauline served a service mission together at the Springville Church employment center.

He served as Springville Irrigation water master in 1977 and 1978. After being the water master he served as the secretary for the Springville Irrigation Company until 2023. Following his father and grandfather serving on the Irrigation Board.

Most of all, Marlin loved spending time with Pauline and their children, 23 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. Marlin went on one work/vacation without Polly. He said that would never happen again. It never did. He couldn’t stand being without his beautiful bride.

He is survived by all six sons: Clinton (Denise) Boyer of Springville, Mark (Kajsia) Boyer of St. George, Dennis (Cara) Boyer of Springville, Brian (Amy) Boyer of Mapleton, Kevin (Shellee) Boyer of St. George, Kirk (Monica) of Mapleton. 23 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.

His siblings: Rea Ann (Bob deceased) Collier, Jorgen (Carolyn deceased) Boyer, LeGrande (Katie) Boyer, Valerie (Darwin) Gukeisen, Seth (Angie) Boyer, and youngest sister Wanda.
