In Loving Memory of
Matthew Robert Howarth
August 29, 1972 – November 5, 2026
Matt passed away unexpectedly on November 5, 2026, due to health complications.
Matt graduated from Springville High School, where he enjoyed the auto body program, and continued his schooling in collision repair at UVU. He went on to become a master plumber. He learned the trade from his dad, Clyde Mortensen, becoming one of his right-hand men at just 12 years old. What started as a young boy learning from his dad turned into a 40-year career spent working alongside his brothers, dad, and son. Matt was incredibly smart and had a natural ability to figure out just about anything. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix, and he loved a challenge.
Matt was the kind of person who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was loved by so many, and his presence brought laughter and countless memories to those lucky enough to know him. Matt was always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter the time, place, or situation. And he never expected anything in return.
He had a love for the outdoors and a way of turning an ordinary day into an adventure with his family and grandkids. Matt loved bringing everyone along for the ride. Some of the best memories were made fishing, camping, and gathering around a campfire, sharing stories and laughter. He was also an incredible cook, from smoking the best brisket to making his famous potato salad and pickling eggs that everyone loved. Thrifting was his go-to, and he was darn good at it. He had an eye for finding hidden treasures and making deals that nobody else could.
Above all, Matt was a devoted husband. His wife of 31 years never went a day without feeling loved and protected. They met at a young age while cruising Spanish Fork Main, beginning a love story that would last a lifetime. The life they built together was filled with love, memories, and a bond that will never be forgotten.
His kids and grandkids were his whole world, and he was theirs. He was the dad, grandpa, and uncle everyone could count on. He loved making memories with them, spoiling them, and getting them into a little trouble along the way. His love for them was endless, and they will carry those memories with them forever.
Matt’s unexpected passing leaves an enormous hole in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone who knew him.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
Matt is survived by his wife, Lindie Howarth; his son, Blake Howarth; his daughter, Brooklyn Howarth (Jeregen); his two grandchildren, Brynlee and Huxton; and many brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.
