Matthew Lloyd Irvine

Matthew Lloyd Irvine of Springville, Utah, left this world suddenly from a heart attack on Friday, August 28, 2026. He had just celebrated his 56th birthday a few days earlier on August 23, 2026. He was born in Provo, Utah. His parents are Ronald Newell and MarLou Wolsey Irvine.

He is survived by his parents (above) of Springville, Ut, his older brother Jason Charles Irvine (Suzanne Levern Mattinson) of Springville, Ut, his twin brother, Todd Louis Irvine (Tiffany Megan Larsen) also residing in Springville, Ut and 3 children, Brantly Matthew Murphy, Trevor Nelson, and Madalyn Irvine (Lyric Canaan), and one grandchild.

He lived his entire life in Springville, Utah and graduated from Springville High School in 1988, then went to work at JB’s restaurant where he learned to cook wonderful meals and continued cooking delicious food for the rest of his able life.

After JB’s, he went to work at Intermountain Lift, Inc. in Springville, Utah where he became a welder and helped build many famous roller coasters including one, named Desperado, at Buffalo Bill’s Hotel and Casino in Nevada. In 1994 when it opened, it was considered the tallest roller coaster in the world and was recognized as such by the Guinness Book of Records in 1996. It was also ranked as one of the longest coasters in the world. Matt was proud of his ability and skills to create such amazing works of wonder. He loved doing this work.

Intermountain Lift would always send their employees, who had built each roller coaster, to the site to be the first to ride it. Matt, being a risk taker since age 8 months, when he scaled the wall of his play pen and jumped out, was very excited to do this.

After leaving Intermountain Lift, he worked in the family hardwood flooring business with his brothers for several years.

He was known for his great physical strength and endurance abilities as a child and even into adulthood. In grade school he won the Presidential Physical Fitness Award. In high school he excelled in soccer on the high school team.

From a young age Matt enjoyed nature and plants of all kinds. He had a collection of plants at each stage of his life. They were growing all over the house, even hanging from the ceiling of his bedroom. He was always on the hunt for a new or unusual kind of plant.

His great interest was in computers, which he was always tinkering with to improve or fix them.

He had many friends all his life from school, work and eventually friends from all over the world via his computer.

He had two pets which he loved. An iguana, which roamed freely about the house when Matt left for work, and an African grey parrot which took the liberty to open up his cage at night with his beak, then walked down the hall to Matt’s bedroom and climbed up on the bedpost to watch over Matt at night.

A viewing for friends and family will be held Friday, September 4, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Wheeler & Sundberg Funeral Homes, 211 East 200 South, Springville, Utah. Funeral services will be held at the mortuary at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026.
