December 7, 1930 — July 17, 2024

Springville

Maureen Richmond Clark, 93, of Springville, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

She was born on December 7, 1930, to Roy Rollin Richmond and Amber Laneiva Richmond in New Chicago, Indiana. She married Frederick Horace Clark on October 13, 1951, in Gary, Indiana, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Maureen grew up in Indiana with her sister, Maxene. While attending BYU, she met and married Fred Clark. They began raising their young family in Lehi and then moved to Seattle, Washington, for Fred to pursue his teaching career. Later, they resided in Winlock, Washington after Fred’s retirement and then returned to the Clark homestead in Springville to live out their golden years.

Music was part of her passion in life and she excelled in playing the clarinet at a young age. She had a lifetime love of music and shared her talent with many. She played the clarinet, harp, piano, and organ. She was a homemaker and loved to care for her six children. She enjoyed making bread and often shared many loaves of bread with friends and neighbors. Maureen was an avid seamstress and talented in quilting, knitting, crocheting, and needlework. She often shared what she created with family and friends.

She had a tradition of printing birthday cards for her children and grandchildren. For those that lived nearby, she would often bake a pizza-sized cookie with their name spelled out with mini-M&M’s as a special birthday treat to accompany the birthday card.

She graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Art in Music Education and a minor in English. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings, especially enjoyed playing the organ and leading the music. She enjoyed sending messages and notes to some of the sisters in the ward and shared her love with them. She was also actively involved as a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP).

Maureen is survived by her children: Kathleen Shinners of Springville, Erick of Boise, ID, Charles (Christine) of Roseville, CA, Ellise Goodman (Ron) of Springville, Lorraine Gerber (Lanny) of Pleasant Grove, Theresa Schock of Omaha, NE, and sister-in-law Carolyn Wood (Blaine) of Springville. She also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Fred, parents Roy and Laneiva Richmond, sister Maxene Taylor, and grandchildren Carolyn Kay and Joseph Shinners.
