Melvin LeGrande Heaps

Melvin LeGrande Heaps, 81, passed away Monday, February 17, 2020, in Ogden, Utah.  He was born on July 14, 1938 in Teasdale, Utah, to Joseph Melvin Heaps and Norma Grace Heaps.  He married Nancy Jean Daugherty in 1961 and they were married for 35 years.  He then married JoAnne Harrington Rigtrup in 2002.  Both Nancy and JoAnne preceded him in death.

Melvin retired from Hill Airforce Base after working for the United States Department of Defense for over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting earlier in his life followed by camping and spending time outdoors later in life. He also cherished time spent with family, and he was a huge Utah Jazz fan. Melvin was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.   He loved all his family greatly.

Melvin is survived by his four children and three stepchildren:  Michael Heaps, Cory (Tori) Heaps, Tamara Heaps, Marc Heaps, Lara Horrocks, Traci (Andrew) Bird, Jessica (Michael) Erickson; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his grandson Brook Andersen.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 21, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street, Orem, Utah.  A viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday just prior to the services from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary.  Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
