Mildred Marie Fisk, our beautiful and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2025 at her home in Springville following a valiant battle with cancer.
Marie was born April 3, 1940 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was the youngest of the three daughters of Charles Glenn and Mildred Florence Bridges. She enjoyed sharing many stories of her young years in Louisiana. When Marie was a little older, her family moved to the Seattle area in Washington, where her father opened up a restaurant. Marie spent many hours working at the restaurant and always spoke lovingly of her “Daddy.” Marie attended schools in Ballard, and graduated from Ballard High School in 1958.
Shortly after graduating, she met her eternal companion, Donald W. Fisk. They were married on January 31, 1959 in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Don and Marie began raising their family, which included a daughter Linda, in the Seattle area. In Seattle they were blessed with the birth of three sons, Jeff, Glenn, and Mike. After years of working and living in Seattle, the couple felt that it was time for a change. Don accepted a job at Brigham Young University in the Motion Picture Department and the family moved to Utah, first living for a short time in Orem, where they welcomed a son, Donny. After a short time in Orem, they decided to make their permanent home in Springville. It was in Springville where they welcomed a son Kennith, daughter Deborah, and son Patrick. Her family was her greatest joy in life.
Marie was a social butterfly. She was always willing to volunteer whenever needed. She was a fantastic and trusted chaperone whenever asked by her kids to go on a trip. This was mainly because she enjoyed having fun with them and their friends. She was a loving and fun neighbor. The April Fool’s jokes that she would play on neighbors are epic and something that she looked forward to every year. She belonged to a club of her friends that would meet once a month for dinner and other activities. In the last trip that she took, just a month before her passing, her family found her sitting in the hot tub with a group of strangers. They soon realized that they weren’t strangers to her, they were her new friends. Her ability to make others smile, feel comfortable, and intently listened to, will be greatly missed.
While raising her family, Marie also worked many different jobs. These included being a secretary in the ICU at Payson Hospital, followed by working for many different doctors’ offices in their billing departments. For a while she worked as a Real Estate Agent, and her last job was working at a Home Hospice Agency. In each of these jobs she was able to interact with people who instantly became life-long friends.
Marie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a strong testimony of the Gospel and of her Divine nature. She held many callings throughout her life, and consistently tried to do her best with what she was asked to do. She was a kind and loyal friend to anyone who needed it. She was loving and supportive of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She loved family reunions or really anytime that anyone in the family would come by to see her. She unconditionally loved each of her 8 children, 33 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great- grandchildren.
In the last years of her life she enjoyed going on adventures anytime that she could. She would wake early to go and get breakfast with her best friend, Chris Hart. Sometimes the breakfast would turn into day long shopping adventures to exotic places like IKEA or Trader Joe’s. The family would like to thank Chris for being such a good friend to Marie. We know that she looked to you as a sister and not just as a friend.
Marie is survived by her children: Linda Carlson, Jeff (Bonnie) Fisk, Glenn Fisk, Donny Fisk, Kennith (Rachel) Fisk, Deborah (Scott) Johnson, and Patrick (Kim) Fisk. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Margaret and Dortha; as well as her husband Donald and her son Michael. We know that Marie’s soul is at peace and that she has been reunited with her sweetheart and all those she loved.
The family would like to thank Canyon Home Care and Hospice, especially her nurse Jessica Anderson and her CNA Amanda for the dignity and kindness that you showed Marie during the last months of her life.
