Norman Dean Tipton, 92, of Springville Utah, born October 21, 1933, passed away December 18, 2025. He was born to Norman Isaac and Blanche Prior Tipton in Spanish Fork Utah. He married Marie Fullmer, February 7, 1953, in Springville Utah. They had five children. Kim Hitchcock, {Paul, deceased) of Vernal Utah; Kevin {Susan) of Cedar City, Utah; Tracy {deceased); Greg (deceased) and Kelly (Mary Kay) of Highland Utah. Dean was the oldest of 5 children, three brothers and one sister.
Dean attended grade school in Springville and graduated from Springville High School. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During High School Dean enjoyed sports and working with cars. His work opportunity after graduation was with Springville City working in the water and electric departments. In 1951, he attended Brigham Young University and Utah Technical College for a short time. He enjoyed going to many, many sporting events to support his children and grandchildren. Dean spent the majority of his adult life building a career with the Utah National Guard. He enlisted in 1954 and served until his retirement in 1993 with an honorable discharge. His unit was involved in many community and government projects. He was deployed twice. Once with his unit to Fort Lewis, Washington, in 1962, for advanced training. His second deployment was to Germany, in 1974, where his unit supported other troops there during war-time preparations. He was required to attend training camps at Fort Ord, California and Fort Greely, Alaska. He received several Achievement Medals for his unit leadership and exemplary efficiency. Dean left his service with the National Guard in October 1993, at the rank of Sergeant and the Grade of Chief Warrant Officer W3.
Dean is survived by 3 children, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and one brother (Gary). He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, two brothers and one sister.
A family celebration will be held on Saturday, January 10th at 11:00 am at the Wheeler & Sundberg Funeral Homes in Springville, Utah. He will be buried with full military honors in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery
