Robert Elmo Averett

November 16, 1933 — March 24, 2018

Robert Elmo Averett, 84, of Springville Utah passed away March 24, 2018. He was born November 16, 1933 to Elmo Averett and Marva Hiatt Averett in Springville Utah. Bob spent his first 5 years in Springville until his father was killed in a tragic accident, after which his mother married Ray Mason and they moved the family to Sevier County where he made many lifelong friends. On October 15, 1951, he married Patsy Meyer in the Manti, LDS Temple. Together they raised six children, Robert, Steven, Diane, Leslie, John and Alison.
Bob had a deep and eternal love for his family and enjoyed nothing more than having them around him where he would entertain them with stories from his life. Second to his family was his love for the outdoors where he hunted, fished and rode his horses. He was truly happy on the back of a horse or having his favorite dog sitting beside him as they went for a drive. Bob was an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts of America having attended several National Jamboree’s. He received the Silver Beaver award and was recognized by the BSA for having been a registered Scout or Scout Leader for over 70 continuous years. In addition to scouting he was very involved in the Hunter Safety program where he taught many youth.
He had a great love for and testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ and was always willing to share it with everyone. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many positions.
Bob spent the majority of his career in the insurance industry, first working for Metropolitan Life and then starting his own insurance agency, “Art City Insurance”. He finished his working career working for Pinkerton Security.
Bob is survived by his wife Pat, children, Robert (Alice), Steven (Susan), Diane (Craig) Huff, Leslie (Skip) Curtis, John (Julie), Alison (Kris) Klabande, 24 grandchildren and 47 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Jensen, and brother in-law Gayland Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Noreen and LaRae, and two grandsons, Jared Averett and Andrew Curtis.
Ashford Assisted Living and Memory Care of Springville, has been outstanding in their care of our Dad these past months. The entire staff has also been very kind and supportive of Mom. They are truly “Angels in Scrubs”. Robyn Peabody and Shelly Baxter, of Canyon Home Care and Hospice, have been more than nurses to our Dad, they have become dear friends to Mom. We thank all of you more than words can express.
