Ronald Warren Schouten, 92, passed peacefully through the veil on October 26, 2025, from natural causes incident to age. Born January 1, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ron often joked that he had the best birthday because everyone celebrated with him. He was the second of seven children born to John and Von Della Schouten.
Ron grew up in Salt Lake City and moved to Springville in 1942 when his parents purchased the Springville Bakery. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work by helping in the family business until graduating from Springville High School in 1951.
On February 19, 1952, Ron married his sweetheart, Doreene Fox, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they built a family rooted in love and faith. Ron is survived by six of his children:
- Morgan Fox Schouten (Amy Cloward) of Las Vegas, NV
- Ronda Staheli (Kent) of Sandy, UT
- Christine Boyack (Kevin) of Albuquerque, NM
- Michael John Schouten (Julie Twitchell) of Centerville, UT
- Dianne Curtis of Spanish Fork, UT
- Shirley Marie Smith Rasmussen (Derek) of American Fork, UT
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doreene; his son, Craig; his parents; four siblings; one grandchild, Brandon Curtis; and one great-grandchild, Daniel Charles Wood. Ron and Doreene’s posterity now numbers over 100, including many who were welcomed into their home and treated as family. Ron and Doreene both served four missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ron’s career began with various jobs, including work at Hill Air Force Base, Carbon Motor Way, as a Springville City policeman and for Marriotts Hot Shoppes in Washington D.C. He later joined BYU Food Services, where he managed the Cannon Center Cafeteria for nearly 38 years. His dedication to BYU athletics earned him a signed football from the 1984 National Championship team—a treasured recognition of his support for the athletes he loved to serve.
A man of faith and service, and deep testimony of Christ that has been passed on to his posterity. Ron served in multiple bishoprics, the Navy Reserves and dedicated his life to helping others. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, scenic drives, family vacations, camping, woodworking, and music—playing the tenor sax and singing in ward choirs. He loved walking his dogs, traveling with Doreene after retirement (including a memorable 45-day trip to Alaska), and cheering for BYU sports.
Ron faced many health challenges but always acknowledged the Lord’s hand in his recovery, earning him the nickname “the walking miracle.” Known for his quick apologies and generous heart, he often said, “Sure appreciate ya,” leaving a legacy of gratitude and love. His family mantra remains: “We come from a long line of love.”
We would like to express our deep appreciation to Dad’s "Angels" at Ashford Living in Draper and Revere Care (Hospice) for their love, friendship, and dedication.
