Sherie Nielson Gray

May 25, 1941 — May 7, 2025

Springville Utah

Sherie Nielson Gray, age 83, of Springville, Utah, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 25, 1941 to Dora and Orion Nielson, Sherie grew up in Monroe, Utah and graduated from South Sevier High School in 1959. She loved her typing and shorthand classes, cheerleading, and especially dating her sweetheart Glen, whom she met in first grade and began dating their sophomore year. After school and on Saturdays, Sherie worked at her father’s grocery store, Ideal Market, and cherished her circle of Monroe girlfriends. Sherie played the piano beautifully and even appeared on the local radio station.

After graduation, Sherie moved to Provo, Utah, and worked in the Walker Bank bookkeeping department until she was married to Glen, by his father Leland, on August 18, 1962, in Monroe, Utah. They were later sealed for time and eternity in the Portland Oregon Temple, with their returned missionary children Teresa and Erik as their escorts.

While Glen earned his college degree, Sherie worked as a teller at State Bank of Southern Utah in Cedar City, where she was beloved by customers and coworkers alike. Sherie returned to banking at US Bank in Salem, Oregon once her children were in junior high and high school, retiring in 1994.

After getting used to the rain, Sherie grew to love living in Oregon. Glen and Sherie vacationed at the Oregon Coast often. Sherie always had a book in her hand and was thrilled to join a book club made up of wonderful women that have met monthly for the last 30-plus years. In 2005, Glen and Sherie left dear friends and neighbors in Oregon and moved to Springville to be closer to family.

Sherie loved crocheting and knitting and made 31 beautiful blankets for her children and their spouses, grandchildren and their spouses, and many others she loved. Sherie was always more concerned about the welfare of her husband and kids than she was about herself. Even as her health was failing in her later years, she never complained and attended as many of her grandkid's sports, recitals, concerts, and theater performances as she could. She was happiest when she was surrounded by family.

Sherie is survived by her husband of 63 years, Glen; her daughter Teresa Carlson (Steve); her son Erik Gray (Jennifer); and her sister Sonya Magleby. She is also survived by eight grandchildren—Sydney Kay Dameron (Bronson), Dane Carlson (Audrey), Brett Carlson, Brady Carlson, Kaylie Lane (Adam), Devin Gray (Juliette), Dallin Gray (Emery), and Kenzie Gray—and four great-grandchildren: Addie, Caleb, and Jenny Lane, and Aurelia Gray. Sherie was deeply proud of each of them and loved them dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orion and Dora Nielson; brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Peggy Nielson; father- and mother-in-law, Leland and Helen Gray; brother-in-law, David Magleby; and sister-in-law, Nanette Owens Gray.

The family wants to thank the three incredible ICU nurses at Utah Valley Hospital who cared for Sherie with such love and compassion.

An evening viewing will be held at Wheeler & Sundberg Funeral Homes, 211 East 200 South, Springville, Utah, on Wednesday, May 21, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. A morning viewing will be held at the LDS Chapel located at 1460 East 900 South, Springville, Utah, from 9:30–10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, followed by the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.
