Listen to Obituary

Vera Louise Curtis Goodrich, 99, of Springville, Utah—beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend—peacefully passed away on July 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Vera was born on April 15, 1926, in Victor, Idaho, to Orvel Ward Curtis and Louise Anna Kunz Curtis, in her grandmother’s parlor near the majestic Teton peaks. She was the oldest of four children.

She grew up in Victor before her family relocated to a farm in Jameston, Idaho, where she learned the value of hard work. After graduating from high school, she entered nurses’ training through the Cadet Nurse Corps in Idaho Falls just prior to the end of World War II. She earned her Registered Nurse degree in 1948 and served in hospitals across Utah and Idaho, including work as a surgical nurse and obstetrics at Utah Valley Hospital, where she assisted in delivering countless babies.

In 1953, Vera was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central States Mission. She spent time serving as the mission stenographer in the mission office where she became acquainted with Elder Boyd Goodrich. After completing their missions, they rekindled their friendship, fell in love, and were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 24, 1956. Together they were blessed with three daughters and one son.

Vera was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with an unwavering testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She served faithfully in many organizations, including Relief Society, Young Women and Primary.

She was deeply service-oriented and gave generously of her time to bless others in her community.

Vera’s talents were many. She loved quilting, crocheting, canning, gardening, cooking, and reading. Her home was filled with beauty and warmth and was welcoming to all who entered.

In their later years, Vera and Boyd traveled extensively, but Vera’s favorite place was always home—serving and spending time with her family. Her love for her family was deep and sincere. She treasured family gatherings and prioritized serving her children and grandchildren. Her life was a true reflection of Christlike love.

Vera is survived by her four children: Susan (William) Orme of Springville, Utah; Curtis (Kim) Goodrich of Layton, Utah; Michelle (Rick) Stott of Georgetown, Texas; and Renae (Brett) Nelson of Springville, Utah. She is the cherished grandmother of 19 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. She is also survived by her sister, Verna (Mark) Olsen of Idaho Falls, Idaho and her sister-in-law, Phyllis Curtis of St. George, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Goodrich; her granddaughter, Emilee Brooke Orme; her parents, Orvel and Louise Curtis; her sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Ralph Bean; and her brother, Vern O. Curtis.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 860 East 200 North, Springville, Utah. A viewing will precede the service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery, 1997 South 400 East, Springville, Utah.
