Verna Nell Steffens Sorensen, 86, of Springville Utah, peacefully returned to her Creator on Tuesday April 2, 2024. She was born March 12, 1938 in Springville, Utah to LaVon Christain Steffens and Mary Nelsena Kendall Steffens. She was married to LeMond Arnold Sorensen (Lee) on November 14, 1958. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 9, 1963. He preceded her in death on July 8, 2019.
Verna was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served there in many capacities including Primary Teacher, Young Women’s President, Cub Scout Den Leader and Relief Society President. She had a great talent for compassionate service. She served a mission in the Tennessee Nashville Mission with her husband as her faithful companion. They also served for 5 years together in the Seattle Temple as ordinance workers.
Verna loved everything crafty. She was an accomplished seamstress, an outstanding quilter, and arranged silk flowers for any occasion.
Lee and Verna loved to travel. They vacationed in Europe, Japan and lived for a time in Russia.
Verna is survived by four children: Dennis (Romanza) Sorensen of Utah, Randy (Lynda) Sorensen of Idaho, Julie (Dale) Larson of Idaho, and Michael Sorensen of Idaho; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and her brother David Richard (Nadine) Steffens of Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband and son Kris (Susan) Sorensen of Utah; her parents and one brother Thomas Shirl Griffiths.
A graveside service will be held in her honor at 1:00 pm on Friday April 12, 2024 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah.
