William Spencer Shields

William "Spencer" Shields

Born January 3, 1946 in Pioche, Nevada. Passed away in Spanish Fork on March 31, 2026 at the age of 80.

Spencer lived his early school years growing up in Los Angeles, California. Then he attended BYU in Provo, Utah where he met and married Bonnie Newquist on March 2, 1972. Spencer and Bonnie graduated from BYU in 1973 from the Youth Leadership Department.

He loved to surf in his younger years, and hunt, fish, hike, camp, target shooting, trapping, archery, ham radio and geocaching with his family.

He was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the gospel with all his heart.

Spencer was preceded in death by his son, Joshua in 1982 and Fawn, his daughter in 2020. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bonnie; his brother Dennis; son, Jacob (Kim); daughter, Josie Reynaud (Todd); daughter, Jessica; daughter, Erin Langford (John); 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

A viewing for family and friends will be held Monday, April 6, 2026 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Wheeler & Sundberg Funeral Homes, 211 East 200 South, Springville, Utah. The funeral service will be held following the viewing at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery.
