Emblem

Gerald Lewis Ollerton (Jerry), our dad, grandpa, and friend age 80 of Springville, Utah, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2022, surrounded by family. He was born July 24, 1941, in Provo, Utah and lived most of his life in Springville.

Jerry grew up in Springville, Utah and graduated from Springville High School in 1959. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Perth, Australia, 1960-62 and later graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Pharmacy. He met his wife Christine on a blind date at the University of Utah and married her in the Manti Temple on January 25, 1963. Together, Jerry and Chris raised 4 boys and 2 girls.

He was known for his giving nature, easy-going personality, and fun humor. You could always find a grandchild snuggled up to him or sitting on his lap.

Jerry spent his career as a business owner and pharmacist in Springville, Utah–owning Art City Pharmacy from 1971-97. After selling Art City Pharmacy, he worked as head pharmacist for Allen’s Super Save. Jerry retired in 2010, and with his wife, Chris, served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Greece Athens Mission.

Jerry enjoyed serving the Springville community and valued the relationships he established with customers, friends, and community members. He was elected to the Springville City Council in 1973 and while on that council helped organize the first Springville Ambulance Volunteer Emergency Rescue Service (S.A.V.E.R.S.). He and his wife, Chris flew to the Midwest and personally drove Springville’s first ambulance from the Midwest to Springville. Prior to this, all of Springville’s ambulance services came from Provo City.

Jerry cherished and valued spending time with his six children, their spouses, 26 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He had a passion for flying airplanes and his grandkids knew him as, “Grandpa Airplane.” His other passions included deer hunting, boating, and exploring Lake Powell. He loved to take first-time visitors to experience Rainbow Bridge.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Christine Walton Ollerton; parents, Carlyle and Glennita Ollerton, and sister, Marilyn Gustin. He is survived by his children, Jennifer (Jared) Roper, Matthew (Wendy) Ollerton, Ryan (Cori) Ollerton, Jared (Alli) Ollerton, Bethany (Paul) Creer, and Seth (Abbie) Ollerton; siblings, Pat Ollerton, Kathy Krafchow, Randy Ollerton, Sue Ollerton.

Jerry’s children would like to thank him for giving them a wonderful childhood and loving and supporting them in everything they do.
