James Francis O'Connor

November 3, 1948 — September 26, 2022

Springville, UT

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, James Francis O’Connor, passed away at the Salt Lake City Utah Veterans Hospital on September 26, 2022. James was born to Clarence Patrick O’Connor and Dorothy Katherine O’Connor on November 3, 1948, and along with his brothers Robert, Kevin, and Ray, grew up in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.
James always had love and pride for his country and in December of 1968, enlisted in the air force. During his six years in the air force, James fought proudly for our country and served during the Vietnam War.
James had a love for learning. After his time in Vietnam, he went on to school where he would receive his undergraduate degree, followed by several master’s degrees, and a PhD. What he loved more than learning was teaching. He taught many grade levels, but especially enjoyed teaching high school and college classes. James’s love of learning is something that he instilled within his children and grandchildren.
James met his sweetheart and beloved wife Michalene in 1986. James had so much love and adoration for Michalene, she shares that same love for James. He would often express to those around him how amazing, beautiful, strong, caring, and loving his wife is. Even during his last days, James’s greatest moments of comfort were the times in which his wife was next to his bedside. James and Michalene shared a love and bond that will continue after this life. They loved and cared deeply for their seven children. Family was the most important thing for James and Michalene, this love was seen and admired by many.
He is preceded in death by his parents Clarence Patrick O’Connor and Dorothy Katherine O’Connor.
James is survived by his beloved wife Michalene Betty O’Connor; sons, John, Dale (Rita), and Michael (Sharon); daughters, Laurie, Wendy (Justin), Amy (Justin), and Katie (Brock); brothers, Robert, Kevin, and Ray O’Connor; grandchildren, Makenzy, Huli, Samuel, Mia, Gavin, Cullen, Guineviere, Lilian, Orion, Talon, Kyson, and Ellie.
We are so very grateful for all the support and love given to James. We are especially grateful for all the men and women at the Salt Lake Veterans hospital for all the care, love, and support given to our father throughout all the years, especially the care given the last few weeks in the hospital.
In lieu of flowers you are invited to donate to the Veteran’s Warrior Project in honor of James’s service in the Airforce and his constant dedication and love for our country and all those who have served and continue to do so.
