Janice Alene (Larsen) Fowles

Born September 13, 1925 at home in Fairview, Utah to Lawrence Henry and Mary Hortense Allred Larsen.

Raised and educated in Fairview, Utah schools and North Sanpete High School in Mount Pleasant, Utah.

She married her high school sweetheart, Robert LeMoyne Fowles on February 16, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple during Robert's furlough from the Army prior to his leaving for the South Pacific. During his absence, Janice, worked at the Provo Daily Herald and the Utah Retail Grower's Association in Salt Lake City as a secretary.

On Robert's return and discharge from the Army, they moved to Mount Pleasant where they were later blessed with a son, Roger Allen, and subsequently bought their first home. Janice supplemented their income by working at the United States Post Office, city offices, and for an attorney. They later moved to Provo for Robert to get a college education at Brigham Young University. She worked as a secretary there at BYU and later at U.S. Steel's Geneva Works from which she retired after nearly 30 years there. In her earlier years, she passed and received the CPS (Certified Professional Secretary) certificate from the National Secretary's Association.

They lived in Springville and finally moved to Mapleton, Utah in 1969.

Church positions include: Dance Director, YWMIA President twice, YW Stake Counselor, Golden Gleaner Advisor, Beehive teacher, Stake Speech Director, (30 years in all with YWMIA), a scribe for the Patriarch, Stake Missionary, Ward Relief Society President, Stake Relief Society President, Secretary for three Stake Presidencies, Stake Sunday School Secretary, "Sister Friendly" in Primary, Primary teacher, and Temple ordinance worker in Provo, Utah Temple.

She also served on the Mapleton City Planning Commission.

She sewed clothing for herself, son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. She loved making and giving away quilts she made for her family and friends.

She is survived by their son, Roger (Nancy), five grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, Loy L. Hafen and Virginia Larsen, and a brother, Rex A. Larsen.

Due to Covid concerns funeral services for immediate family will be held on Tuesday, January 5 11:00 a.m. at the Mapleton Stake Center, 970 North 400 East in Mapleton. Interment will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

As a family we would like to acknowledge with sincere appreciation to Corey Blonquist and all those at Encompass Hospice Care who helped care for Janice.
