Lori (Crandall) Gammell

March 6, 1959 — March 17, 2022

Mapleton, Utah

Lori Crandall Gammell, our beloved Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Friend and Nana, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Mapleton Thursday evening March 17, 2022. She was 63 years young after battling ovarian cancer for four and a half years.

Lori was born March 6, 1959, in Provo, UT to Leland and Geniel Crandall. She enjoyed an ideal childhood in Springville. Summer days included riding bikes, building forts, swimming at dad's nearby gravel pit, road trips in their homemade motorhome, and of course trips to Lake Powell. Fall was spent on family hunting trips up at the Whittemore property in Hobble Creek Canyon. Wintertime meant fun memories around skiing, sledding and snowmobiling.
Lori graduated from Springville High School in 1977 and later attended BYU. She worked in a floral shop, at Happy Service Grocery, and was also a talented seamstress. She taught ski lessons at Sundance starting in 1982 for 18 years before teaching another 18 years at Deer Valley.
Lori married Alan Ray Gammell, her high school sweetheart, in Springville on August 25, 1978. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. She considered this her most cherished life event. She loved Ray with her whole heart. As the end drew near, mom always made sure to tell us kids about how much she loved and appreciated their companionship, especially the loving care that dad gave her. She knew that because of his hard work she was able to bless the lives of others. She wanted to make sure that dad was going to be taken care of.
Lori is the mother to four wonderful children, Brandi (Logan) Nielsen, Emily (Brad) Fagg, Lee (Ashley) Gammell, Bill (Whitney) Gammell. She gave them a wonderful childhood full of love and adventures to many places and blessed them with a legacy that what mattered most was time spent together as family.
Lori is Nana to eight wonderful grandchildren who loved her dearly (Hunter, Lucy, Scottie, Ivie, Dax, Lorenzo, Rockwell and Dierks). She taught them many life lessons including gardening, riding bikes and most importantly how to ski! They love to experience everything she was so passionate about and the way she lived life to the fullest.
Lori is a sister to Craig (Liz) Crandall, Stacy (Dan) Duncan, Shelly (Craig) Simpson, Marci (Kim) Johansen; sister-in-law to Gayle Gammell, Mary (Don) Winkler and John Gammell. She has numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and considered friends as family. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Todd, sister Jamie and brothers-in-law Clyde Gammell and Bill Gammell. She loved all of her family members and made sure they were always having fun together. One of her favorite places was the Crandall family cabin at Fairview.
Lori was always the life of the party. First one to dance, laugh and of course loved to dress up. She made every event special and fun for those around her.
She had many hobbies that bettered her mind and body. She loved to be outdoors and was the first on the water ski, snowmobile or snow skis! She lived for adventure and even adrenaline. She was a part of many different hiking and biking groups, she cherished those friendships dearly. She also loved to learn, to attend institute, going to Sisters of Liberty class and was learning Hebrew after a trip to Israel. She loved to learn about cultures and enjoyed traveling with her husband to many different places.
She was extremely grateful for the wonderful people she met during her time at Hope 4 Cancer. Many wonderful relationships were made and cherished during their stay. She brought hope and smiles to those who loved and served her while there.
Lori is a wonderful example of Christ-like service. Thousands were recipients of her meals, smoothies and most importantly, her flower plates carefully hammered in their yards. Her favorite church calling was serving as the primary chorister. We are so grateful to have received her many acts of service and example.
She knew that her Savior Jesus Christ lives and emulated His life through her example. She had a unique way of sharing our Savior’s love by connecting with everyone. She did this by living a life of putting others first such that all would agree was her legacy of testimony in her Savior.
Special thanks to her hospice nurse Lisa for taking great care of her and to everyone else that has helped our family through this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, she requested, “Pay it forward and introduce someone to God’s beauty by taking them to see His creations.”

Love you all!
