Margaret Grace (Smith) Hamilton

On Monday, August 26, 2019 late in the afternoon, Margaret (Peg) Grace Hamilton (Smith), our guiding light, the matriarch of our tribe, our magnetic north for our familial moral compass slipped peacefully from the ethereal grasp of our present sphere and transcended to a higher station where she can continue to guide her tribe by being the eternal beacon of light and wisdom to us all. She is reunited with Frankie joined together in spirit living in our hearts forever.

Peg was an intelligent, engaging, if not mischievous, student in her youth, who grew to be an emphatic supporter of community activism in her early adult years. After undertaking a transcontinental relocation with two small children (Jodie and Frank) she poured her energy into working at one of the first free clinics in the San Francisco area. After having two more additions join the tribe (Bob and Greg) and surviving the San Fernando Valley earth quake in early 1971, she took her children and headed back to the east coast. An adventurous 10-day cross country trek with four young children led her to more hard work and the eventual reality of being a single m other. Surrounded closely by extended family. Peg became the pillar of an upstart family that needed both direction and support.

Eventually, she met and married Jim Hamilton, who not only accepted all of her children as his own, but also blessed the tribe with a brother, Jimmy Hamilton. Together they raised their children to adulthood through many moves and adventures including Clifton Park NY, Pine Bluff AR, Mannford OK, Lufkin TX, Lebanon PA, and eventually Springville UT where Peg found her forever home.

Peg once again took up community activism, helping to start and grow the Unitarian Universalist congregation in Springville, playing an active role in the League of Women Voters and The Arts and Humanity Council. Peg also became a leader in the local real estate business community, winning many awards for her leadership and expertise. Between 2000 and 2005 she was again and again a top performer in both sales and commission as a part of the Prudential Real Estate Team.

Peg retired in 2008 and was shortly thereafter diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Her husband Jim was her rock. He supported and loved her and their children through many trials and joys including the last few difficult years where Peg and Jim together bravely battled Parkinson's and dementia. Because of Jim's unwavering dedication. Peg was able to stay home until the end of her earthly journey.

She is survived by her dedicated children, Jodie Goodman (spouse, David), Frank Hamilton (spouse, Kelly Ann), Bob Hamilton (spouse Christy), Greg Hamilton (spouse Kimberly) and Jimmy Hamilton. She has many beautiful grandchildren who she dearly loved and one precious great granddaughter who was the light of her life.
