Obituary

Marilyn "Mimi" Ann Mecham Groneman, 88, of Springville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 4, 2022.

Marilyn was Born to Delema Mecham on April 24, 1934, and adopted by Othello Mecham in American Fork, Utah.  She was raised in American Fork, and graduated from American Fork High  School.

It was there she met and married Shirl Royal Groneman from Provo.  They were married and Sealed for Eternity in the Manti, Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on October 13, 1952.  Together they had four children: Hal Oran Groneman (Linda), Roger Shane Groneman (Linda), Jon T Groneman (Bonny), Tana Dee Groneman.  14 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren.

Marilyn was adopted at birth by her father who married her natural mother.  She had three siblings from her adoptive father: Patricia Wolohen (Mike), Elaine Beck (Tobe), Don Mecham (Sally).  She loved these siblings and their children as her own.  Each of her sibling’s proceeded her in death.

Marilyn and Shirl lived in Mapleton and Springville during their married life. she worked at Barbizon, Mountain Bell, Nebo School District, Utah County Recorders Office, and Clyde Companies.  She met many wonderful co-workers whom she loved, and cherished her relationships with each of them.

Marilyn was a fantastic cook and has passed on many good recipes.  She was a champion candy maker, receiving outstanding awards for her divinity, fudge and caramels.  She loved making them for her friends each year at Christmas or for special occasions.

Together with Shirl and along with several of their friends they organized and started the Springville Youth Football and Cheerleading programs, which continue to this day.

Marilyn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She had a strong testimony of the gospel and the Prophet Joseph Smith.  She held many callings and performed them well.  She truly knew how to lift others and showed personal interest in all who she met.

Marilyn loved Utah Football and while cheering on her nephew Michael who played for Utah she was kicked out of a ballgame along with his father for getting into a tussle with some fans while sitting in the middle of the BYU student section.  Thus began the Groneman family allegiance to Utah and rivalry with BYU. GO UTES !

Marilyn’s beauty, personality, and genuine care for others endeared her to many.  She will be sorely missed.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her Eternal Companion Shirl.  Their relationship was a true love story from the beginning.  They were always together while he was alive and she was a widow for way too long.  They raised their family in the mountains, desert, and sometimes on a tote-goat all while hunting arrowheads with extended family.

She had several mini strokes during the past year that collectively contributed to her decline in health.  She battled hard to stay with us.

The family would like to thank all who helped to take care of her and assist her during her struggles, especially her doctors and the staff at Canterbury Assisted Living Center in Springville.  Also those who continued to cut her hair, do her nails, bathe her and get her up and about. A special thank you for her dear and closest friends who have remained so during these past 29 years without Shirl. A wonderful Heavenly Reunion has taken place!

A viewing and family prayer for close friends and family will take place on Tuesday, September 13th at Wheeler Mortuary from 9:30 am to 10:30 am followed by a Graveside and burial Service at 11:00 am at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery, 1997 South 400 East, Springville, Utah.  All who would like to attend are welcome at the cemetery.
