Maris Thorn Grotegut (82) passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. Maris was born on August 31, 1938 in Springville, UT to Jasper Roe Thorn and Lydia Lena Thalman. Maris married David Arthur Grotegut on October 12, 1963, and they were sealed a year later in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

The center of Maris’ life has always been family and her testimony of Jesus Christ and His Gospel, and she found great joy in being with, and surrounded by, her family. She is adventurous and loves to learn new things, including, painting, dancing and singing, and enjoys spending time in her yard and garden. Maris loves the mountains and canyons (and skiing), and used to take her family on frequent trips into the mountains near her home to enjoy the beauty of nature. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University. Maris was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many different callings throughout her life. The highlight of her Church service was serving a mission in the Hungary Budapest Mission with her eternal companion, Dave.

Maris is survived by her husband and eight children: Tim (Jan) Grotegut of Mapleton, Utah; Tami (Peter) Child of Corona, California; Kirsten (Mike) Bissegger of Bloomfield, Missouri; Maren (Kevin) Fisher of Ivins, Utah; Kell (Carla) Grotegut of Spanish Fork, Utah; John (Teresa) Grotegut of Midway, Utah; Joy (Dave) Miller of Palmer, Alaska; and Jason (Kathryn) Grotegut of Orem, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers: Roger, Chuck, Ray and Chris Thorn.
