Myrna Alice Cecelia (Larson) Evert

June 3, 1927 — June 23, 2020

Myrna Alice Cecelia Evert, nee Larson, 93, peacefully passed away on June 23, 2020.  She was born on June 3, 1927 in Argyle, MN to Louis and Mathilda Larson. The family included five children – Harriet, Eileen, Llewellyn, Dorothy, and Myrna, the youngest.  She attended rural school through the eighth grade and then Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN, where she graduated from Advance Class in 1945.  Myrna married David Evert on February 12, 1947 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Argyle, MN.  She was a wife for 71 years, a mother of five, grandmother of ten, great-grandmother of 18, and great-great-grandmother of one.
After they were married, Myrna and Dave lived in Brockett, ND; Wellsburg, ND; Hendrum, MN; Bismarck, ND; Sterling, ND; and Casper, WY where they fixed up houses, yards, and planted trees in every town they lived.  Dave managed grain elevators and Myrna raised their young family while she volunteered in community, church, and school organizations. But the greatest love of her life was raising her children. She often said “her children were her life”.
Myrna was an excellent cook and took her talents to Wellsburg, ND; Hendrum, MN; and Sterling, ND schools making delicious meals for hundreds of hungry students.  While they lived in Bismarck, ND she worked as a nurse’s aide helping at a nursing home.  She enjoyed singing in church choir and having coffee with her buddies.
In June 1986, they retired and moved to Casper, Wyoming where they cleaned office buildings, became active in their church, spent time fixing up two more houses, and planting trees and flower and vegetable gardens.  Mom’s arthritic hands were seldom idle - she knit scarves, hats & mittens not only for her grandchildren but for the underprivileged as well.  She would hit garage sales and find fabric of all kinds to make quilts for the needy and church groups.  Myrna was a prized quilter and created thousands of quilts in her lifetime.  Her quilts grace the beds of children and grandchildren all over.  Myrna had a short but successful bout with breast cancer in the 1990s, showing again her strong Norwegian constitution.  She was awarded The Regional Jefferson Award in 2005 for her outstanding community volunteer work for giving of herself.  She was very proud of that accolade.  In early 2000’s, they were able to move into a new home on the west side of Casper, where they enjoyed watching the irises, roses and evergreen trees grow. Dave and Myrna lived at Mountain Plaza until Dave’s death in 2018.  Myrna’s final residence was Ashford Assisted Living Center in Springville, Utah.
Myrna is preceded in death by her parents, brother, three sisters, husband, David, and daughter, Louise Jacobson.  She is survived by children: Scott (Wendy) Evert, Holmen, WI; Craig (Pam) Evert, Glendo, WY; Blake (Janelle) Evert, Madison, WI; Kevin (Jeff) Evert, Springville, UT.  Grandchildren: Jeff (Toni) Jacobson, Devils Lake, ND; Elaine Kjosa, O’Fallon, IL; Jason (Val) Evert, Casper, WY; Julie (Josh) Stumbo, Spokane, WA; Heather (Andrew) Evert, Bloomington, IL; Denise (Dane) Booth, Elko, MN; Brian (Megan) Evert, Edmonds, WA; Dennis (Carrie) Evert, Edina, MN; Ben Evert, Madison, WI; Jon Evert, Fridley, MN.  Great-Grandchildren: Dylan (Shelby), Kaylee, Emily, and Nate Stumbo; Jesse (Max) Tasche, Lacey, and Faith Evert; Nicolas and Morgan Kjosa; Sydney and Rochelle Jacobson; Carter, Jackson, and Abigail Booth; Adelyn and Cameron Evert; Etta and Ellis Evert.  Great-great grandchild:  Dominic Stumbo.
