Myrna Elizabeth Kantor, age 83, passed away peacefully in Mapleton Utah on September 1, 2021 after a courageous battle with the lingering effects of diabetes.
Myrna was born on July 17, 1938 in Salt Lake City to Irel Lewis Longhurst and Ada Brough McKinnon Longhurst. She was the oldest of three children.
She graduated from Carbon High School, Carbon College, where her father was a Vocational Education Administrator, and then from Brigham Young University in Elementary Education. Her mother was an elementary teacher in Price for thirty years. Her parents were a large part of her inspiration to become an educator.
Myrna and the love of her life, Stanly Sheron Kantor, were married in the Manti Temple, July 11, 1958. They spent their early married life in Provo and then moved to Anaheim, California where her husband Stan was a police officer, retiring as a Captain and Assistant Chief. Myrna taught elementary school, third grade was her favorite. She worked in early childhood education for the state of California for a few years before she retired.
Myrna was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in a variety of positions with Young Women, Primary children and in the Relief Society. She worked as an ordinance worker at the Provo Temple with her husband for over 18 years. She was a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Mapleton and Springville Camps. For the last few years, she attended the Sunbonnet Camp in Spanish Fork with her sister Linda. She also was a Pink Lady at Utah Valley Hospital for 15 years.
She is survived by her three children: Karin Lin Appleman (Clancy Morley), Kelly Ann Van Sickle (Brent), Thomas Jon Kantor (Diana), eleven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Linda Blackham (Lamar) of Spanish Fork and her brother Thomas M Longhurst, (Helen) Florence, Montana, two brothers in law, John Kantor (Carolyn) Price and Ed Kantor (Vicky) Washington and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a public viewing, Tuesday September 7th at Wheeler Funeral Home 82 West 400 North, Mapleton, from 6:00-8:00.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 8th at 11:00, at the Heritage Chapel in Mapleton 1580 North Main Street, Mapleton. An additional viewing will be held the morning of the service from 9:30-10:30.
The family would like to thank Spring Gardens Assisted Living for their professional and compassionate care.
Interment will be at Springville Evergreen Cemetery – 1997 South 400 East, Springville, Utah
