Patricia Dawn (Sheppeard) Bliss

February 9, 1933 — July 24, 2020

On Friday, July 24, 2020 our dear Patricia Dawn Bliss, passed from this life into the next surrounded by her family at her home in Mapleton, Utah. Patricia was born February 9, 1933 to Russell Sheppeard and Hazel Marsh Sheppeard and was raised by her mother and loving stepfather Milton Passey.  She was born and raised in Tooele, UT and moved to Ontario California in 1945. It was on a visit to her aunt back in Tooele that she met the love of her life, Blaine Bliss.  They were married April 8, 1951 and later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple.  They were blessed to raise 5 sons and though she wished for a daughter she said when her sons married they did a fine job picking them for her.
Her husband was always at her side, especially during many illnesses and surgeries when he cared for her so tenderly and she did the same for him.  Pat and Blaine were married just shy of 70 years and he is looking forward to spending eternity with her.
Pat was active in the LDS church, the Gospel of Jesus Christ being the center of her life. She served in many leadership positions in Primary, MIA, Sunday School, and Relief Society.  She was a member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and Mapleton Book Club.  She worked at IHC for 21 years in the dietary department, advancing quickly to Dietary Supervisor.  She was Employee of the Month twice and runner up to Employee of the Year.  She and Blaine enjoyed going on RV vacations with their friends, travelling all across the US and sometimes just up Maple Canyon for the weekend.
Pat may have been small in stature, but she was 4’11” of pure goodness and a huge heart.  She accepted everyone as they were and would do anything for anyone. Loving, kind, insightful, generous, always serving others, and very spiritual are words to describe her.
Family was most important and special to Pat.  She never spent money on herself, but often slipped the kids and grandkids a dollar or two on their way out the door.  She was a “Leave It to Beaver” mom that checked behind her boys’ ears and made sure that top shirt button was buttoned when they left for school, as well as having the cookies and milk on the table when they returned home.  She loved to have sleepovers with the grandchildren and bake and decorate sugar cookies with them for the holidays.
She was an excellent cook and loved to feed her family.  She made the absolutely BEST rolls.  She baked ten dozen for family Thanksgiving and we ran out!  Even as she neared the end of her life and we brought meals to her she would tell us that next time we visited, or as soon as she got better, she was going to fix us a great meal, that she should be serving us when we were in her home and we always told her we were looking forward to it.
Patricia is survived by her husband Blaine, sons Craig (Janet), Steve (Barbara), and Jeff (Renae), daughters-in-law Cindy and Dawn Bliss, sisters Lyla, Norma, Susan, and Sally, as well as 25 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sons Brent and Michael Bliss, and granddaughter Angela.
The family is extremely grateful for the many doctors and nurses that cared for Pat, and especially to Margaret and the other angels from IHC homecare and hospice.
