Roderick Galen Betts passed away peacefully on March 17, 2022, in Springville, Utah. Rod was born on September 15, 1939, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. He spent his childhood and youth in Rosemary, Alberta, Canada where he gained an appreciation for hard work on the family farm. After serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Paris, France, Rod attended Brigham Young University where he met and later married the love of his life Maureen Stringam. Upon graduation Rod and Maureen moved to northern California for a brief period and then moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada and then later to Sherwood Park (near Edmonton), Alberta, Canada where Rod was instrumental in a variety of businesses before relocating with his family to Mapleton, Utah.
Rod was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints the entirety of his life, serving as a Bishop (Mapleton 6th Ward), High Councilor, and Temple Worker, among other callings. He especially cherished his time serving at the Provo Missionary Training Center as a Branch President. Most importantly he shared his testimony of a living Savior with his family through example and word.
Rod and Maureen after 55 years of marriage are the parents of six children, 21 grandchildren, and 2.5 great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Maureen Stringam Betts (Springville) and children: Stacy Roderick (Kristen) Mapleton, Derrick Stringam (Serena) Heber. Utah, Ryan Shawn (April) Mesa, Arizona, Carri Lynn Challburg (Scott) Kingwood, Texas, Tory Braden (Melanie) Anthem, Arizona, and Sacha Liana Palmer (Luther) Heber, Utah. He is also survived by two brothers (Bartley and Colin). Rod was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Doris Betts and his elder sister, Denise.
Rod was a master craftsman and spent hours creating beautiful, personalized items in a variety of mediums which are cherished by his children and grandchildren. His shop was his sanctuary, and he could often be found designing and building exceptional pieces for his home and family.  Rod also loved to hunt and encouraged a love and appreciation of the outdoors in his children.
