Obituary

Scott Tracy Banasky

Scott Banasky departed his worldly journey peacefully on January 10, 2021.

He was born June 16, 1958, in Helper Utah to James and Beverly Banasky.  His family moved to Green River, Utah when he was 5 so his dad could run the bank.  When Scotty was 13, his mom went into a nursing home.  He always said that he had many “moms” as the entire town embraced his family.  Scotty has a great love for the town of Green River and the surrounding area.

Scotty left Green River to serve in the Kobe Osaka, Japan mission.  He always said that the Lord knew what he was doing by sending him there, because if there wasn’t an Ocean between him, he would have walked home.  He made many lifelong friends while serving in the mission field.

Upon returning home, his family had moved to Price as the bank had been sold and his Dad had to find a new line of work.  He always said this was a blessing as it forced his dad to go into the insurance business full-time.  Scotty and his brother JD worked side by side with their dad to build the James Banasky Insurance Company.  Scotty took a short break from the insurance business to attend school at Utah Valley Technical College in Orem, Utah.  While there, he successfully ran for Student Body President. But, his life was to be in the insurance business, so he soon left school and went back to the family business.

Scotty loved to take his dad’s clients hunting as this got him out of Saturday morning chores.  This was the training ground of his generous, fun loving, spirit.  He loved to entertain - and the more the merrier.

About 20 years ago, Scotty realized one of his dreams when he was able to purchase the property where he used to hunt as a child in Green River, Utah.  He lovingly built and developed the property into a world class hunting preserve that raised thousands of dollars for charity, passed on the love of hunting to a new generation, and shared his passion of the outdoors.

Scotty married Marilyn Hansen on December 19, 2008.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Bountiful temple on April 7, 2012.  Even though Scotty wasn’t able to have any children of his own, he truly cared for and embraced Marilyn’s four children.  His favorite title was “Grandpa” and he lit up when any of the grandkids came into the room or he facetimed them on the phone.

His larger than life persona, smile, laugh, friendly handshake, and genuine friendship will truly be missed.  He was never happier than when he was giving.  His heart would break when he heard that someone needed help and would reach into his wallet and give.

Scotty will be sorely missed, but we know he is watching over us and encouraging us to serve others, love one another, and enjoy the adventure of the day. We anxiously await hearing his famous greeting “Scott Banasky, damn glad to meet ya”.

Scotty is preceded in death by his parents James and Beverly (Beard) Banasky and a brother Charles Mark Banasky. He is survived by his brother, J D (Renee) Banasky, Price UT, Joni (Brent) Pace, Green River, UT, and his loving wife Marilyn, and his four children Annie (Jacob) Biagi of Lincoln CA, Zak (Sarah) Peirce of Gilroy CA, Trevor (Chelsea) Smith of St. George UT, and Sara (Kyle) Garcia of Syracuse UT. Scotty leaves behind fourteen grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please do an act of kindness.  He would love nothing more than for you to buy lunch for a friend, take your wife to dinner, or buy your grandkids ice cream.  That would honor him more than anything.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2021 from 6-8 pm at the Wheeler Mortuary located at 211 E 200 S in Springville, UT 84663.  A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021 at noon at the Lindquist Washington Heights Memorial Park, located at 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden, UT 84403

In true Scotty B fashion, I know that he was “Damn glad to have met you”.

I love you Scotty B
