Sharlene (Taylor) Sumsion

Sharlene Taylor Sumsion, 85, of Springville UT, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, June 24th, 2021, peacefully in her home. She was born January 18th, 1936, in Heber City UT to John LeLand Taylor and Susan Armistead. She married Mark LaFollette Sumsion on August 21st, 1953, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

Sharlene enjoyed many things including golf, bowling, crocheting, quilting, reading books, traveling, and tending grandchildren.  She belonged to Las Chiquitas Bonitas Women’s Club for 25 years.  In her adult life, she returned to school and earned her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree and worked at the Springville Medical Clinic and finished her career working at the Utah County Health Department. She became the first woman to serve on an ambulance crew in the state of Utah and diligently volunteered as an EMT on the Springville Ambulance Association for 13 years. She also taught EMT courses at UVU and BYU for many years.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in multiple capacities, but the majority of her time was spent in the Relief Society presidency and teaching lessons. She loved serving others which brought her great joy. Sharlene served a mission with her husband at Temple Square and the Conference Center.

Sharlene is survived by her husband: Mark LaFollette Sumsion of Springville; her five children; Steven Taylor Sumsion of Evanston, WY; Brenda (Jeff) Smith of Nephi, Utah; Kent (Djuana) Duane Sumsion of Springville, UT; Analee (Michael) Creer of Spanish Fork, UT; Diana (Carl) LeCheminant of Burley, ID; and 30 grandchildren; and 48 great grandchildren.

A viewing for family and friends will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2021 from 6-8 pm at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South in Springville.  Funeral services will be Monday, June 28, 2021 at 11:00 am in the Springville LDS Stake Center 245 South 600 East, Springville, UT with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 am at the church prior to the services.
