Theora Anderson Nelson, age 100, passed away on December 25, 2019 in Springville, Utah. She was born on July 22, 1919 in Logan, Utah to John and Ella Early Anderson. She had three older brothers and a younger sister. Her father died of pneumonia when she was just two-years-old. As a child she spent many summers in Round Valley with her grandparents on their farm. Theora married Lee Russell Nelson, also from Logan, and they later divorced. They had four sons: Robert (Marlene) of Springville, Nolan (deceased), Lloyd (Marva) of Richfield, and Dean of Springville. The boys all served in the military and one served an LDS mission.
Theora moved to Springville when her four sons were still in grade school. She worked for Brigham Young University as a pastry chef to support her family. She was known for her independence, spunky personality, and hard work! She never owned a dishwasher or a car, and spent many hours mowing, irrigating and taking care of her yard. She loved flowers and had a green thumb. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and faithfully attended services every Sunday.
She enjoyed supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in sporting events and other activities—she was always ready for a ballgame and a hamburger afterward. Her grandchildren remember playing board games around her table at family gatherings, the colorful afghans she crocheted for them, and of course her perfect snickerdoodle cookies!
Theora is survived by sons, Robert (Marlene), Lloyd (Marva), and Dean, 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Nolan, sister Elizabeth Brown, brothers Aide, Dori and Rodney Anderson, and grandson Chandler Nelson.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the staff of Ashford Assisted Living and Memory Care in Springville for the tender care they provided to Theora in her final years.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 28th at the LDS Chapel located at 840 South 400 East in Springville at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
